KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — Movie buffs who enjoyed the local film The Kid From The Big Apple will now get to see its sequel which will be screened in cinemas here beginning Thursday.
Like the first film, the sequel titled The Kid From The Big Apple 2: Before We Forget , both produced by Three Pictures, was directed by Jess Tong.
A statement from Three Pictures issued said the sequel continues the themes of family values and traditions, with the message that each member of the family must be appreciated while there is still the chance.
“Interaction between family members is deteriorating. Our film is to remind viewers of the importance of family and encourage them to show their love before it is too late.
“The issues portrayed in this sequel are close to the hearts of many people in Malaysia, and the whole world, but they are not taken seriously. We hope that through this film, we can educate and inspire readers on how to deal with problems like dementia,” said the statement.
The sequel reunites the original cast of Tommy Tam (Ti Lung), Sarah Tan and Jason Tan, Debbie Goh and Hong Kong actor Shaun Tam.
The sequel continues where the first film left off, with Chun Gen (Ti Lung) moving into a new family home. It explores more sentimental elements, touching on today’s realities which affect people of all walks of life.
The film will also be screened in Singapore, Hong Kong dan Taiwan.
The Kid From The Big Apple was screened in 2015 and won four awards at the Seventh Macau International Movie Festival and two at the 28th Malaysian Film Festival. — Bernama
